Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

We are looking for qualified Medical Laboratory Technicians to join our Bowel Screening Team at LabPLUS, Auckland City Hospital.

The Specialist Chemical Pathology department encompasses Special Biochemistry, Endocrinology, Trace Metals and Chromatography and provides laboratory services for 3 national programmes (Bowel Screening, Newborn Screening and Antenatal Screening). 

Whilst these roles are based primarily in the Bowel Screening area there may also be a requirement to work in other sections of the department. Primary tasks for the role will include pre-analytical unpacking and sorting, extraction of and analysis of samples, registration of samples and general admin work.

The positions are 4 or 5 days/week on day (0700-1530 hrs) and evening shifts (1530-2400 hrs) and will involve some Saturday shifts. The permanent position will be mainly evening shift. The fixed term positions are for up to a year covering parental leave.

You must have a current annual practicing certificate and be registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand. For details, visit www.mscouncil.org.nz

The department is busy with strict turnaround time and quality requirements. Applicants will need to possess excellent organisational, computer and communication skills and be flexible with working hours. The role requires a person with a skillset including attention to detail, excellent time management, accuracy and the ability to work as part of a team.
