About the Role
We have twelve month and six month fixed-term Clinical Fellowships available with Auckland City Hospital Department of Adult and Emergency Anaesthesia, commencing in February and August 2026. Based at the Simulation Centre for Patient Safety (SCPS) www.fmhs.auckland.ac.nz/som/anaes/scps at University of Auckland, this position also has a clinical component based at Auckland City Hospital with the Adult and Emergency Division of Anaesthesia. Along with clinical skills, you will acquire a broad skill set in simulation techniques, supporting educational theory and research during the year. SCPS has an active research programme and also delivers simulation-based education for undergraduates and postgraduate health professionals.

This appointment will be 50% research and 50% clinical, with call. Candidates with existing research qualifications (eg PhD, Masters) will be looked upon favourably. The fellow will be expected to pursue research that contributes to the department of Anaesthesia. Linkages with the University of Auckland would be encouraged. You may have the opportunity to hold this position for up to two years. Key outputs would include the design, conduct and writing up of several clinical research projects on a theme. The fellow would also be encouraged to attend courses in statistics and epidemiology as appropriate to their experience. There will be flexibility in the start date for this position. About you
Ideally, you are likely to be either nearing the end of your training, or have recently completed a formal anaesthesia training programme, but seeking additional structured training in the above sub-specialties. These posts are generally not suitable for applicants who are more than 12 months post FANZCA or equivalent qualification, or for anyone with provisional specialist registration.
You will be either registered or be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Please note you will be required to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application.
