Starship Children’s Health (Auckland), the leading provider of child health care in New Zealand and the South Pacific has a new exciting opportunity for a permanent, part-time role as a Paediatric Pain Physician to commence in August 2024. An exact start date, including earlier/late, is flexible and negotiable with the successful candidate.
The Starship Complex Pain Service provides care for children from all over New Zealand. This is in conjunction with a medical or surgical specialist in the child’s home region. The department is made up of an interdisciplinary team that includes a medical specialist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, 2 psychologists/mental health clinicians, 2 psychiatrists, a specialist nurse and administrative staff.
The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine is responsible for the management of approximately 11,000 cases per year through 7 operating rooms at Starship Children’s Hospital plus additional operating room sessions at a separate day surgery facility, Greenlane Surgical Unit (GSU). A further 1,500 patients are anaesthetised for procedures outside the Operating Rooms which include MRI, CT, Cardiac Investigations, radiotherapy and other radiology procedures at various locations at Starship Children’s Hospital and Auckland City Hospital.

To be successful, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand and be registered, or eligible for such registration (General Registration). Applicants must be eligible to work in New Zealand. Other requirements for the role include:
· Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FFPMANZCA) or equivalent
· Extensive experience managing and delivering care in the area of Complex Paediatric Pain
· Experience in paediatric medicine OR child and adolescent psychiatry OR anaesthetics and paediatric complex pain
· Membership of a professional defence organisation
