About the Role
Working as a Neurology Registrar
Neurology encompasses the science, investigation and treatment of all inherited and acquired diseases affecting the nervous and neuromuscular systems. Working in neurology you will be dealing with disorders ranging from diseases of muscle to disorders of cognitive function and behaviour and using clinical tools ranging from the bedside clinical assessment, through electrophysiology and molecular biology to functional neuroimaging. There are X positions accredited for advanced trainees in neurology and X positions for trainees in other advanced training programmes or basic trainees. The clinical duties are similar except advanced trainees in neurology will be expected to attend subspecialty clinics, including neurophysiology. The six month rotation includes working in an inpatient neurology unit, an acute stroke unit, and supervised outpatient clinics, as well being responsible for the initial assessment of patients presenting with acute neurological problems. After hours, registrars participate in a 1 in 6 call roster and at times will be required to cover other medical subspecialties.
