Working as a Cardiology Advanced Trainee
In Advanced Training in Cardiology, you will explore in-depth speciality training in the prevention, investigation, therapy of, and research into, diseases involving the cardiovascular system. The spectrum of cardiovascular disease is such that cardiologists have close working relationships with a broad range of other internal medicine physicians and with Vascular and Cardiothoracic surgeons. Cardiology is well recognised as a research-intensive field, from which many leading biomedical researchers have arisen. Each run is 6 months in duration with a total of 6 runs across the 3 Auckland hospitals over the 3 years of training.
Medicine Registrar Runs
Medical registrars can rotate through specialist cardiology runs in the Auckland region (Auckland City Hospital, North shore Hospital and Middlemore Hospital). Successful applicants will begin the rotations in January 2026 or July 2026. Example run descriptions for the 2025 training year can be viewed on the Auckland Doctors website. For further information on Advanced Training in New Zealand please visit the RACP website.
Auckland consistently ranks as one of the most liveable cities in the world with its stunning natural landscapes, mix of cultures and world class entertainment.
