MOSS General Medicine, Auckland City Hospital, Te Toka Tumai
MOSS full-time position (40 hours per week), 12 months fixed term.
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the Role
General Medicine is an acute service based at Auckland City Hospital, part of the Adult Medical Services Directorate at Te Toka Tumai. We are a leading teaching hospital and closely associated with Auckland University. General Medicine is the core of the medical inpatient services and is supported by a range of tertiary services that you would expect in New Zealand’s largest hospital complex.
The General Medicine Department is looking to appoint a General Medicine Medical Officer of Special Scale (MOSS). The position is fixed term for 12-months to start January 2025, with the possibility of extending the fixed term period, and will consider those wanting to work part time. The primary responsibility for the MOSS is to work in the Clinical Decision Unit providing assessment, diagnosis and management to patients who present to the service. The MOSS will also have the opportunity to develop an acute clinic along with the service leaders. An understanding of community options and understanding of Hospital in the Home pathways is desirable. The degree of autonomy in this role will vary depending on your level of experience but will always be supported by a vocationally registered General Medicine Specialist.
For US candidates, the MOSS position is comparable to a “Hospitalist” position, with a focus on admitting. Ideal candidates will have hospitalist experience, and ideally some experience managing patient flow, but physicians who have been working more in an outpatient setting may be considered. The MOSS works closely with other physicians and trainees at various levels of training, from PGY-1 to fellow level. US candidates must have Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
For further details, please refer to the position descriptions here.
