These positions are in the regional training rotation programme with Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Auckland Region Districts comprising Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Te Toka Tumai Auckland, Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Waitematā and Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Counties Manukau Districts.

Working as an Auckland Doctor means that you have the opportunity to rotate at any one of our three districts, which will give you exposure to a variety of different specialties and cultures.
Working as a Clinical Genetics Fellow
New Zealand has a National Clinical Genetics service. The Auckland hub is based at Auckland Hospital. The service covers a population of around two million people in the top half of the North Island. Clinics are performed in Auckland at Starship Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre, and Manukau Super Clinic. Regional clinics are held in Whangarei, Rotorua, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Gisborne. The service consists of 5 clinical geneticists, 8 genetic counsellors and one fellow post. Exposure in all areas of clinical genetics is available: foetal medicine, paediatric genetics, adult general genetics, neurogenetics, cardiac genetics and cancer genetics.
The job is also open to metabolic trainees who wish to complete 6 months of genetic and 6 months of metabolic training.
The job is suitable for an advanced trainee of either paediatric or adult medicine. The job is for one year commencing February 2024 although a successful applicant may be able to extend this to two years. Opportunities exist to complete all 3 years of training in New Zealand (in more than one centre).
