The Opportunity
Midyear in August 2025 we are excited to be providing an opportunity for Registered Nurses, with relevant Perioperative history, to train toward working as an Anaesthetic Nurse.
The Anaesthetic Nurse Competency Pathway (ANCP) is a workplace facilitated programme which aligns with, and recognises the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists standard for anaesthetic assistants (PS08). This programme replaces the previously used Southern Cross RNAA programme. The ANCP is a regional initiative that Te Toka Tumai is delivering.
Bring your expertise, your knowledge and your skills to make a difference around the way we approach our mahi to better meet patient, whānau and stakeholder needs. We are working hard to develop a responsive and capable workforce that reflects the population we serve. We strongly encourage applicants from our Māori and Pasifika communities to apply.
Te Toka Tumai is totally committed to creating a flexible workforce that is able help a multitude of areas within the Perioperative environment. You’ll be joining the Perioperative team who share Te Toka Tumai’s values of Haere Mai (welcome), Manaaki (respect), Tūhono (together) and Angamua (aim high).
The timeframe for a current operating room (scrub/circ) or Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nurse to work and complete training is approximately 14months, depending on prior experience and learning. You need to be ready to work full time in an ‘on the job’ training position in addition to completing the ANCP theoretic components.
The cost of the training is fully funded by the directorate. Clinical preceptor support is provided throughout with clinical teaching sessions facilitated by the AT Training and Development Coordinator
Once training is complete there is an opportunity for you to combine this role with another perioperative role e.g. 50:50 PACU: anaesthetic assistance or 50:50 or scrub/circ: anaesthetic assistance, the choice is yours.
