Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Dermatopathologist to join our team based at Mt Wellington, Auckland. This is an excellent opportunity to work with NZ’s largest and highly specialised community based laboratory service.
In this role, you will be working between 40 and 50 hours per week. However, the actual hours of work will be negotiated with the Clinical Lead during the interview stage. You will work rostered hours to meet the requirements of the service as needed. On call may be required but is uncommon.
Anatomic Pathology Service (APS) in Mt Wellington provides services to approximately 4,000 private specialists, private surgical hospitals and general practitioners with up to 500 overall histology specimens received per day, and a further 15-20 for non-gynaecological cytology.
Of this overall volume, about 60% are skin cases and are preferentially routed to our team of dermatopathologists. The specimens cover both inflammatory and neoplastic dermatopathology, more weighted to community than inpatient case types. Certain cases naturally overlap with lymphoid, soft tissue and other areas of anatomic pathology. We regularly train other team members as future dermatopathologists, with excellent success rate thus far, in preparation for advanced certification including the European examination and the Australasian College.
For further details, please refer to the position description here.
Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
As the ideal candidate for this role you will be a trained Anatomical Pathologist with advanced qualification in Dermatopathology (Australasian, American or European) and will either have or be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand. At present, vocational registration hurdles may prevent employing dermatologist-background dermatopathologists, but applications will be considered to the extent possible from candidates with primary registration as Dermatologist rather than Anatomical Pathologist.
Please note, if you are not currently registered in New Zealand and have overseas medical qualifications, you will be required to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application. For more information about the registration process and source verification of qualifications, please visit www.mcnz.org.nz
