About the Team/Service/Location
The Starship Blood and Cancer Centre serve a population of over 3 million and is located within Starship Child Health, Grafton, Auckland. The centre provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment and long-term follow-up for children and adolescents with cancer and non-malignant haematological conditions.

Nurses, doctors, social workers, play specialists, teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, Kaiatawhai (Maori Support Liaison), Pacific Island support workers, child psychologists and psychiatrists are all important and integral to our service.
The acute component of the service involves initial diagnosis and management, treatment of complications of therapy and assessment during treatment. Palliative care caters for the physical and psychological needs of dying children and their families.
The service also provides a comprehensive Haemopoietic Stem Cell (Bone Marrow Transplant and CORD) Transplant service for New Zealand. There are over 100 new malignant diagnoses a year and we provide a national service for allogeneic stem cell transplantation. In addition, we manage a wide variety of non-malignant haematological conditions including haemophilia and the transfusion dependent anaemias.
The successful applicant would work within a large multi-disciplinary team including 11 SMOs. Responsibilities include in and outpatient clinical work, supervision and teaching of junior staff. There will be protected time for a designated research project.
