About the Role
As a Mental Health Assistant, you will assist nursing staff with the provision of essential care while meaningfully engaging with patients. This includes activities such as self-cares and bed making, laundry assistance, room transfer, escorting service users as appropriate, assisting with recovery programmes and completing routine checks and enhanced observations as delegated. You will attend handover as an essential member of the team and be aware of health status, risk, vulnerabilities and needs of all service users on the ward. You will contribute to the delivery of high-quality service and ensure that all tasks will be attended to in a time efficient manner.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Fraser Mcdonald Unit is a 15-bed acute admission unit located on the Auckland City Hospital site. It is a 24 hr service that provides specialist assessment, treatment and diagnosis to people experiencing acute mental illness or behavioural difficulties associated with dementia.
The team comprises Consultant Psychiatrists, Nurse Unit Manager, Charge Nurse, Registered Nurses, Kaihautū, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Clinical Psychologist, Physiotherapist, a Nurse Educator, Mental Health Assistants, Team Administrators, Registrar and House Officer
