Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
Starship Children’s Health (Auckland), the leading provider of child health care in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and the South Pacific, has an exciting opportunity for two fixed term, full-time positions as Fellows in General Paediatrics for up to 12 months commencing in January 2025.
Based at Starship Hospital, Grafton, General Paediatrics provides general paediatric services to the central Auckland population. The Starship General Paediatrics team provides expert care for acutely unwell children on the ward including eating disorders and also provides general paediatric outpatient services for a broad range of medical and neurodevelopmental needs of children aged from birth to 15 years of age. We are closely connected with the tertiary-level medical, surgical, radiology and intensive care services that are provided within Starship Children’s Hospital. General Paediatrics works within a multidisciplinary framework that includes Māori support workers, Pacific Island support workers, Allied Health, Hospital Play Specialists, Social Workers and clerical staff who work closely with the nursing and medical teams.
You will provide clinical leadership for a broad range of childhood presentations to ensure that all children we care for receive excellent and equitable care. The role involves rostered availability as second on-call and first on-call ward rounds with SMO support. You will work in outpatient clinics providing general paediatric first specialist assessment and follow-up support for children with medical and neurodevelopmental presentations. You will be involved in a variety of non-clinical areas, such as supervision of junior staff, medical education, quality improvement and research. In Starship Hospital you will utilise your expertise by your involvement in clinical guideline and pathway development and medical education. You will actively contribute to the development of General Paediatrics in Auckland and New Zealand.
The role can be tailored to your training needs with regard to outpatient clinics. We can also provide exposure to ADOS play assessments, involvement in the Starship multidisciplinary eating disorder team, as well as management and coordination of care for complex inpatients. This is all done with full SMO support to enable you to develop independent practice for your own future SMO role.
