The Cardiothoracic Surgical unit is inviting applications for a Medical Officer Position in Cardiothoracic Transplant Surgery at Te Toka Tumai. We are the quaternary service for advanced cardiothoracic surgery, transplants and ECMO in New Zealand and one of the largest cardiothoracic surgical units in Australasia
In this role there will be a full range of training opportunity in heart and lung transplantation. We have seen an exponential growth in this service and the clinical experience will be busy and comprehensive. Lead surgeon role in organ retrieval and assisted role in implant operations apart from opportunity with work up and follow up of transplant patients will encompass the training and experience.
This will meet the credentialing requirements for an Australasian cardiothoracic transplant surgeon.
The training position will provide you with:
· The opportunity to publish and present at national and international forums.
· Involvement in the non-transplant cardiothoracic work providing stimulating range of experience in our unit.
· A stepping stone to further a career in Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Surgery

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
You will need to have the following:
· Eligibility for registration in cardiothoracic surgery with the MCNZ.
· Prior experience (equivalent or greater than SET 6 of the RACS training programme in cardiothoracic surgery of the RACS) and FRACS or equivalent qualification in cardiothoracic surgery is essential for this position.
· Previous experience as a registrar in a leading transplant unit will be desirable and if basic qualifications are recognisable in New Zealand it would be an advantage.
· Ability to work well within a team environment is another essential attribute to be successful in this role.
