This is a great opportunity for an experienced Nurse with strong leadership and advanced nursing skills to work closely with the Charge Nurse of our Cardiothoracic ward at Auckland DHB in an environment that will prepare you for a key management/leadership role.
Our Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit (CTSU) based at Auckland City Hospital is a unique and stimulating environment covering the full range of Cardiothoracic Surgical procedures, including Heart and Lung Transplants. Our commitment is to the highest levels of clinical quality and providing the best standards of personalised care possible to our patients.
Ward 42 has 35 beds and is a high volume fast turnover ward dealing with complex acute and elective post-surgical cases from ICU. Our patient population is a mix of cases such as Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, and Heart and Lung Transplant.
In this role you will report to the Charge Nurse of Ward 42 and be accountable for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of clinical nursing care to patients and their family/whanau. On a daily basis you will be demonstrating clinical and professional leadership and co-ordination of the ward in addition to leading and supporting nursing teams in all aspects of nursing care management within the ward. This is a key senior nursing role and you will be working under the direction of the Charge Nurse, and in conjunction with clinicians and other members of wider multidisciplinary team.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
You will be an experienced Senior Registered Nurse with leadership experience in a tertiary hospital preferably within Cardiac. You will have excellent communication skills and will be a driver of quality improvement initiatives with the focus on patient safety and excellence in delivery of care whilst demonstrating the ADHB values.
You will need to work autonomously and as part of supportive senior nursing team committed to effective/evidenced based nursing practice. You will be leading a team of nurses who provide a high standard of service in this specialty. You will have proven management skills and a commitment to continually improve the quality of care provided at an operational level.
