Our cardiovascular department serves our local population and the greater northern region. Services include cardiothoracic surgery, interventional cardiology, vascular surgery and specialist intensive care for both cardiothoracic and vascular patients.
We also deliver the National Heart and Lung Transplant service for New Zealand, encompassing Organ Donation NZ and Transplant Recipient Coordination.
We are the largest public hospital cardiology department in NZ. We offer a full complement of sub-specialties in adult cardiology including coronary intervention, TAVI, complex electrophysiology, cardiac transplantation and adult congenital cardiology.
Our Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is world-renowned and leads New Zealand in providing specialised nursing care based on clinical skill, research, education and innovation. Our cardiothoracic surgical unit provides New Zealand’s foremost tertiary cardiothoracic services and is the highest volume unit in Australasia.
Our Vascular Regional Services is considered the only purely vascular service in Australasia.
We have one of the largest Cardiac Catheterisation labs in the country, specialising in a wide range of diagnostic and interventional procedures of varying complexities while caring for patients acutely and on a non-acute basis.
