A vacancy has opened up within the team for a qualified Health Care Assistant to join the busy unit! This opportunity is a part-time 0.4 FTE (16 hours per week) permanent position, which will involve two weekly shifts. Either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday. The need to be flexible in the variations of shift-work this role will involve is a must!
About the role:
This is a role designed to support staff in caring for infants, children, young people and families of the Blood and Cancer centre.
You will be responsible for general work around the ward including restocking of clinical rooms, cleaning clinical equipment, general clean-up of family used areas and laundry, and maintaining a clean and tidy environment.
Being proactive and showing initiative are imperative along with excellent communication skills and a positive friendly approach. We will provide a comprehensive and well-structured orientation programme, a fast paced work environment resulting in a high level of job satisfaction along with the open opportunity to grow both as a person and as a professional within this specialist team!

About Starship and the Service: The Starship Blood & Cancer Centre provides care for children and young people with cancer (0-18 years) and those undergoing Bone Marrow Transplantation.
This multidisciplinary unit is a regional and national referral centre for the treatment of cancer. Starship Child Health is the leading provider of paediatric care in New Zealand and the South Pacific, providing world-class inpatient, outpatient, trauma, emergency, and urgent care to children and their whānau.
A part of Auckland District Health Board, Starship Hospital is New Zealand’s largest tertiary healthcare provider committed to delivering whānau-centered care that focuses on the needs of the child first and values whānau as an important member of the care team. We seek to lead New Zealand in paediatric service delivery, in the provision of pre and post-graduate nursing education, and through the building of our reputation as a national centre of excellence in paediatrics.
We’re now looking for a candidate who’d like to work either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday.
It is essential that the successful applicant has obtained a Health Support Assistant Certificate (Level 3 or 4) from Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) or an NZQA equivalent from another provider.
Please note - we require proof of all HCA qualifications upon application and all 'NZQA equivalent' qualifications will be assessed prior to shortlisting.
