The NZ Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service (NZFGCS) is a Ministry of Health funded national service with offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Our multidisciplinary clinical team of Family History Assessors, Gastroenterologists and Colorectal Surgeons identify, assess and manage people with familial gastrointestinal (GI) cancer syndromes. The team also provides education, information and support to families, including medical management advice and a colonoscopy surveillance referral programme.
We are seeking expressions of interest for a Family History Assessor based in our Wellington office.
This is an advanced practice role and includes on-going follow-up and clinical oversight of high risk individuals and families.
• Explore the medical histories of families to determine their risk of hereditary syndromes associated with gastrointestinal cancer
• Provide on-going surveillance and risk management advice
• Recommend appropriate care
• Coordinate the endoscopy surveillance for those individuals participating in our colonoscopy reminder programme
• Demonstrate an awareness of the ethical issues related to the medical management of genetic disorders and the psycho-social impact on people who have a diagnosis of cancer or who are at risk of developing cancer

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills
If you have led your own clinics, this will be an advantage but full clinical training and support is provided.
This role requires a clinically-based health degree (or equivalent) with significant clinical experience working with patients and a genuine interest in supporting families with inherited cancer syndromes. You will need to be comfortable working with clinical data. A staged training programme is able to be offered.
We also welcome more experienced applicants who hold a clinical Master’s degree in a relevant area
