At Auckland DHB we embrace and celebrate the rich diversity that we have on our team, and in the communities we serve. We value inclusion as part of who we are and who we're striving to be. When you work with us, we want you to be able to bring your whole self to work knowing that we welcome and support people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disability and religion. There are a number of initiatives we’ve embedded internally to continue to promote and educate our people such as creating an internal employee network who champion, advocate and consult on all matters.


We’re proud to be the first DHB in New Zealand to be awarded the Accessibility Tick and a foundation member of the programme. The Accessibility Tick Programme will help us progress on our journey to become a more accessible and inclusive place for all employees and prospective employees with any Accessibility Need. We are committed to supporting those with an Access Needs during recruitment, induction and throughout your employment here at the Auckland DHB. 

Rainbow Tick

We're also delighted to have been awarded the Rainbow Tick. Being a part of the Rainbow Tick community is a way of ensuring Auckland DHB continually improves our processes, our environment and our culture, to be a great place to work for all our employees, whatever your identify: race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation. We have launched two e-learning modules available to all employees to continue to develop an understanding of the Rainbow community and why Rainbow inclusion at work and in health matters, as well as taking part in internal and external events , proudly celebrating the diversity of our staff.

As the largest employer in Auckland we take our impact on the environment seriously.

Our vision is to meet the needs of today without adversely impacting the needs of the future generation, our goal to be carbon neutral by 2050.

We are proud of our efforts to date, having reduced our carbon emissions by 28 per cent over the last four years with reduced energy and waste initiatives.

In 2018, we were named one of the Top 20 Carbon Reducers from Enviro-Mark Solutions’ and recognised globally by the Green Global Health Hospital network receiving three silver awards on; energy emissions reduction, non-energy emissions reduction and leadership.

This recognition reflects the tremendous work being led by our passionate staff to realise our commitment to taking positive action on climate change.

We have just begun and there is still more work to be done that will transform this organisation to be the most sustainable DHB in the country.
